The Prophet Isaiah Foretold Isa: The Secret of the Name and the Sacrifice
For centuries, people have wondered how the name Isa became the standard for the Messiah in the East. While Westerners use "Jesus," many believe the name Isa has a profound connection to the great prophet Isaiah (Isha'ya in Aramaic). When we look at the scriptures, we see that it wasn't just a coincidence of language—the Prophet Isaiah actually foretold the life and purpose of Isa in incredible detail.
Isaiah 53: The Prophecy of Isa’s Sacrifice
In the book of Isaiah 53, written over 700 years before the Messiah was born, we see a "mirror image" of Isa Al-Masih. The prophet describes a man who would be "despised and rejected," a man who would "bear our griefs and carry our sorrows."
Isaiah wrote: “But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities... and with his stripes we are healed.”
When you read the Gospel of Isa, you are seeing the fulfillment of what the Prophet Isaiah (Isha'ya) saw in his visions. The name Isa connects the Messiah directly to these ancient scrolls, identifying him as the one Jehovah promised to send.
Jehovah’s Plan Revealed
In Exodus 6:3, God revealed His name as JEHOVAH. It was Jehovah who spoke through Isaiah to tell us that Isa would come. By using the name Isa in the books of Matthew, John, and Revelation, we are highlighting this prophetic link. Isa is not a "Western" figure; He is the Semitic Savior who fulfills the Hebrew prophecies of Jehovah.
Restoring the Connection in the Injil
On our site, we use the KJV text but restore the name Isa so that the connection to the prophets is clear. When you read about Isa’s life, you aren't just reading a story—you are reading the climax of a plan that started with the visions of Isaiah.
As the translation notes in the Aramaic New Testament by Glenn David Bauscher point out, the Aramaic language preserves these links between the Old Testament prophets and the New Testament Messiah in a way Greek translations often miss.
